After Hours

After work and on
the weekends, Pierre excels at providing its residents with the
opportunity to relax, get fit or be entertained - indoors and out!
Entertain Me
Besides an award-winning Italian restaurant featured in Bon Appetit
magazine and the franchise favorites you’re used to, Pierre offers
many one-of-a-kind dining experiences. Favorites include fresh
bagels and lattes in the cybercafé, fabulous steaks overlooking the
river, fresh walleye at the marina, or unforgettable ribs in a lodge
setting. Mexican, Chinese and southern cuisine is also available.
Pierre’s theater has three screens, the Pierre Players community
theater offers a new show every few months and the Shortgrass Arts
Council brings in world-renowned performers several times a year.
There are also dancing lessons like Salsa, and live music on weekends
downtown. The Pierre Mall coordinates many unique events, from
bridal shows to a Raptors in the Wild presentation.
The Pierre Concert Series brings
top-notch entertainment to the Pierre/Fort Pierre area. All
performances are held in the Riggs Theater and admittance is by
season membership only. For more information contact (605) 224-7909.
Keep Me Indoors
Pierre’s shopping is also a satisfying experience. Prairie Pages
Booksellers adds poetry readings, book signings and a reading club.
If you prefer furniture made by hand, Pierre has it. And women’s
fashion has made great strides with the addition of Sonja’s Couture
and Blue Cheetah.
As the sun sets and the nightlife calls, enjoy sports bars, an
extensive wine list or a place that has the neighborhood feel of
Cheers. A dedicated trolley system gets you to the dance on time,
and home safely. But if you’d rather feel the rush of a workout,
that’s available at the YMCA or at two new 24-hour fitness centers.

I Gotta Get Outside
The popular waterfront walking and biking path intersects with the
Legion Cabin deck along Hipple Lake. It’s a favorite hangout to
watch the sunset. If you need a bit more stimulation, Pierre hosts a
celebration of life on the river called Oahe Days, complete with an
arts showcase and performances for two straight days. Parades
include July 4, St. Patrick’s Day, Homecoming and Christmas Parade
of Lights. There are the Casey Tibbs Match of Champions Rodeo, four
weekends of horse races, frequent half marathon and triathalon
events, a mountain bike race and most likely a national fishing
tournament to check out.
For a list of other ways to get outside, go to the Fun and
Games tab on this website.
